Ongoing Construction

This year we began construction on our new wildlife rehabilitation facility. 2015 marked our last year in the original space, which was just a couple hundred square feet and operating out of the founders’ basement and back yard. Over 1,000 animals were admitted in that basement and it just wasn’t big enough any more.

We moved to 4009 West Arrowhead Road in Duluth and began construction on the first of two new buildings which will give us 5,000 square feet of space. It hasn’t been easy and it’s been downright chaotic at times, but we’re slowly getting there. Watch our progress in the slideshow below.

Even though the first building is done, this project is far from over. Slated for 2017 are:

  • A second 2,500 square foot building (and all the caging and equipment to go in it)
  • Laundry facility
  • Security system
  • Outdoor pre-release and test-flight cages
  • Parking lot and run-off filtration system
  • Updated medical exam room with x-ray and other testing equipment
  • Landscaping
  • Updates to the existing house, making it appropriate office space and animal admission area

Most of the materials from this project are from recycled sources and great care has been put into making sure our impact on local wildlife and ecosystem is as minimal as possible. If you’d like to help us complete this project, please donate to our Support Our Growth fund. The whole project is expected to cost nearly $500,000 and at the time of this writing we have just over $81,000.
